Super Bowl Sunday, February 7
Next week is Super Bowl Sunday. Please plan to join our worship service at 11am-noon, instead of in the evening.
Good news! New life. Transformation. Fruit of the Spirit. The scriptures are full of promise and hope that followers of Jesus might experience life, and life abundantly.
Why is it then that so many of us who claim to follow Jesus find ourselves wanting for the deep transformation of Christ we read about in scripture? From Sunday, January 31, through Easter Sunday, we will be walking through a sermon series to try and tackle this very question.
The sermon series is rooted in John 11 and the book, The Lazarus Life, by Stephen W. Smith. LSCC has purchased a copy of this book for each household (you should have received a copy if you are a regular attender) to help you go deeper and enter into the process of spiritual transformation. No reading is required to benefit from the sermon series. The book is simply a gift for those who would like to go deeper or to use in a small group setting. We hope you are blessed by this series and if you so choose, by the book as well.
Who’s crafty? Who likes to color or paint?
We need your artwork to print on postcards for an upcoming service project. We’d love to have artwork from anyone in our congregation who would like to participate–adults and kids alike!
- Images will be cropped to 4″ x 6″ size.
- Please include a name for the artwork and name of the artist with submission. Providing the artist’s age is optional. If names are not written in the artwork, it will be printed on the corner.
Please submit digital images of your artwork to Elizabeth by Tuesday, February 2 if you would like the chance for your artwork to be shared among the congregation and community.
If you’re looking for inspiration, here are some prompts:
- What brings you joy this winter?
- What does LSCC look like?
- Where do you feel closest to God?
- What’s the prettiest thing you can imagine?
- What’s your favorite kind of postcard to receive from a friend?
In November we brought you, Light Up the Lot.
This February 16th—Fat Tuesday—we’re upping our game with CAR-nival.
From 4:30-6pm on Tuesday, February 16th, you are invited for a drive-through experience at the church parking lot. You’ll receive supplies for entering into the Lenten season which begins on Ash Wednesday (February 17th this year). From meal ideas and crafting supplies, to a prayer calendar and ashes for our Ash Wednesday service, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to see some friendly faces and be blessed with a Lenten care package.
Ash Wednesday Service 6:30pm, February 17
This short, simple, yet powerful service draws on Scripture readings, a service of repentance, and the imposition of ashes as a way of remembering our mortality and need for Jesus.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, the six week period that offers us space to prepare our hearts and minds for the Easter celebration. Traditionally, this season is one of repentance (turning from sin and toward Jesus afresh) and a time when people often give up something good to gain something better and/or engage in acts of service to others, more time in prayer, reading Scripture, etc.
This service will only last 30-40 minutes and will be available on Zoom at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 17th. Register Here if you would like to join but don’t already receive our Live@5 zoom links.
