(Be)Long FAQ

When is the retreat?

Saturday September 7, 11am arrival time through Monday, September 9, 9:50am check-out.

RockRidge Canyon is a popular destination for retreats and group get-aways and Saturday after breakfast is when the retreat center is available for us. To ensure we can have at least one full day together, the retreat will end after breakfast on Monday morning.

Where is RockRidge Canyon?

RockRidge Canyon is near Princeton, British Colombia. It is a 3.5 or 4 hour drive from Bellingham, across the Canadian boarder and over the mountains.

What documentation do I need to cross the boarder into Canada?

Adults need a valid Enhanced Drivers License or Passport or Passport Card or NEXUS to enter Canada by car. Children under 16 only need proof of US citizenship (i.e. a birth certificate) and permission from both parents to enter Canada by car.

Will there be carpools?

We would love to encourage the community-building and creation-care of sharing rides! While we cannot promise carpools for everyone, please contact us if you will have extra seats in your vehicle, or if you would like to ride with another household.

I can’t stay through Monday. Is there a discounted rate if I leave Sunday?

No. We are charged one price for room and board no matter how much each person participates. We encourage everyone to request time off work to stay the whole time.

Finances are tight. Is there a way we can still come?

Yes! This is why LSCC is subsidizing the retreat costs for everyone who wants it. If that discount is not enough, PLEASE talk with Pastor Chris, or the (Be)Long administrative team–Cory Eltrich and Kim Bengen–about a scholarship. There are some in our congregation who have generously paid extra so that YOU can come, too.

I have small children. Is this retreat for me?

Yes! We have intentionally planned  children’s activities to be available throughout the weekend. We will all be housed in one building where baby-monitors can reach to the lounges on each floor so parents can still hang out when children nap or go to bed early. (Please bring your own baby-monitor.)

I have dietary restrictions, do I need to bring my own food?

RockRidge Canyon provides meal options for people with common dietary restrictions including Vegetarian, Dairy-Free, and Gluten-Free. Please indicate that you need this on your registration form and food will be provided.

If you have less common food restrictions, you may need to supplement with food you bring.

What is the housing situation like?

There is a variety of room setups–from bunk-beds to king beds, so the registration team will do our best to accommodate each household appropriately. Families with small children will need to bring appropriate bedding for the children (such as a pack-n-play). For more information about our lodging, please visit RockRidge Canyon’s webpage. We get to stay in the Wolf Creek Lodge.

What is the housing like for singles?

Due to space limitations, and for encouraging community and a sense of belonging, we hope to place all singles with same-gender roommates. If there is someone in particular you would like to be your roommate, please indicate that on your registration, or talk with the Admin team–Cory Eltrich and Kim Bengen
