Chris Eltrich: Pastor

I have the privilege of pastoring LSCC. Starting back in September of 2008, a small group commissioned and sent from Bellingham Covenant Church began praying and dreaming about planting a church in the Lettered Streets neighborhood.  We launched weekly worship gatherings on Easter of 2009 and I’ve been pastoring LSCC ever since.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
Three things instantly come to mind:

1) I love to see people grow in Christ through using their gifts and talents within the church and, maybe even more exciting, seeing how God is using them in their areas of vocation.
2) I love studying, and proclaiming the good new of Jesus through preaching the Scriptures.
3) I love pastoring.  That is, walking with people through the ups, downs, and sacred transitions in life.  I count it as a humbling and sacred privilege to pastor.

What’s your favorite ice cream?
I love me some chocolate with peanut butter mixed in.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy skiing, soccer, reading, and gardening.

Tell us about your family.
I am married to Cory who serves as a dental hygienist here in town.  We have three wonderful daughters who fill us with joy and keep us on our toes through tough questions and refreshing perspectives on life and faith.  We love to enjoy the pacific northwest together through biking, hiking, skiing, and playing soccer together.  We love our neighborhood, too!  What a gift to live here and grow in community together.

Holland directory-1Elizabeth Holland: Pastor’s Assistant

I write the weekly update, print the bulletin, make the volunteer schedule, and whatever else Pastor Chris asks me to do. I most enjoy making the bulletins and and directories. Because I’m weird and like to do little things like that over and over, adding in new information and making it better. I have been Chris’ assistant since January, 2013.

What’s your favorite ice cream?
Vanilla with chocolate and peanut butter in it. The BEST.

What’s on your bucket List?
I’d like to visit every continent except Antarctica at some point in my life. So far I’ve travelled throughout North America (including Mexico), and been to Belize. I lived 9 months in China and visited Mongolia. I’ve seen England, Scotland, France and Spain. Now I need to start on the southern hemisphere!

What do you love most about LSCC?
What I love most about LSCC is the people. It might seem scary at first to sit down to dinner after church with people you don’t know well, but it’s worth it. I appreciate the authenticity I see in the people around me. As administrator, I’m also floored by the servant attitude of the church as a whole.

What are your hobbies?
I love theatre. Attending is fun, but I really love being in a show and learning to see the world through my character’s eyes.

Jen Milsten: Children’s Director

My name is Jen and I have the great privilege of serving as the Children’s Director at Lettered Streets. Each week I partner with our amazing volunteers to plan the Scripture-based lesson, an intentional craft, fun activities and, of course, a healthy snack.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the number of volunteers who graciously give of their time and wisdom to engage with kids in a rich, deliberate manner. However,  more than anything in my role, I love hearing kids process the Scripture, build deeply rooted friendships, and share endless stories about just about everything!

What do you appreciate about Bellingham?
I attended Seattle University with a degree in General Science. My intention at the time was to become a high school science teacher. Instead, the Lord brought my husband, Jeff, and I to the high desert of Central Oregon to serve for 8 years on staff at Young Life’s Washington Family Ranch. Believe it or not, I missed the trees, mountains, and puddle jumping–and so to Bellingham we moved.

What are your hobbies?
I love to be outside, lay in freshly mowed grass, eat fluffy snow, and play Legos with my 3 kids.

Wilsons copyChristy Wilson: Children’s Cohort Director

At Lettered Streets, the cohort program is for our oldest kids and is designed to put the youth in the church and the church in the youth.  I love the idea of mixing the play of youth with the steadfastness of church, and I love that Lettered Streets is a body willing to experiment with that combination.

How long have you served in this role at LSCC?
The cohort program just started this fall (2015).

What is your favorite ice cream?
Ice cream is one of the few things, along with coffee and peanut butter, that can be mixed with my precious dark chocolate without ruining it.  So, a really good rich dark chocolate ice cream (ie Mallard’s Super Chocolate.)

What are some of your hobbies?
Music, sports and sea glass… in that order.

Tell us about your family.
Nathaniel and I met in the WWU orchestra and have been married for 13 years.  Together, we have 4 beautiful children who astound us every single day.

What’s something you love about (serving at) LSCC?
I love serving at LSCC because of the community. It has been a pleasure to serve the Lord and while doing so become closer and closer to the other people serving here. The people I used to look at as other attendants at our services are now some of my closest friends because of the service opportunities that we’ve had together.

CharlotteCharlotte Plog: Leadership Team

What’s something you love about (serving at) LSCC?
I feel honored to serve our LSCC community.  Being on lead team has forced me to look more deeply into our core value of ‘culture of listening (prayer), learning (study), and Questioning.’ I love learning from my fellow partners, as we worship, pray, read, fellowship and walk together.

What aspect of the gospel is most compelling to you?
I am most compelled by the story, that is at the same time simple, baffling and full of mystery.  A story on many levels, of those told by Jesus, of Jesus, God’s story, and how then are we part of this story today?  To quote Eugene Peterson “God reveals himself to us not in a metaphysical formulation or a cosmic fireworks display but in the kind of stories that we use to tell our children who they are and what it’s like to be human…Story is the gospel way.  Story isn’t imposed on our lives; it invites us into its life.”

What’s your favorite Ice Cream flavor?
Mint chip or cherry chocolate chip

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I was born with two teeth

What do you appreciate most about Bellingham/the Lettered Streets?
Very few places you can live where you can hike during the day in the mountains, and come to sit and enjoy sunset over the islands for the evening.

What are some of your hobbies?
camping, cooking, cross country skiing, crafting, hiking,

Ian McFarlane: Leadership Team

What’s something you love about (serving at) LSCC?
The two things I love the most about LSCC are the family atmosphere and being able to serve the community. My wife Sara and I have found this church to be a great place to develop deep relationships, grow in Christ, and raise our family amongst others who are looking for the same thing. Being a part of a church that emphasizes serving together has allowed me to get involved in various ways during my time here from doing projection on Sundays to being a small group leader, organizing the men’s retreat, and serving on the Leadership Team.

       Tell us about your family.
My wife Sara and I have two wonderful children, Luke and Gracie.

What’s your favorite Ice Cream flavor?
It would be too difficult to choose just one, but I love me some Mallard Ice Cream and Sirena Gelato. I also enjoy making my own gelato and sorbet.

       What’s on your bucket list?
I would love to visit Africa someday. I have have already been to countries in N. America, S. America, Europe, Asia, and Australia and would like to visit the last inhabitable continent before I die.

What are some of your hobbies?
I love gardening and when I have the time I would like to become a master gardener. I also love following sports and supporting my favorite teams.
